Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Cat Map mobile application ("App"), operated by PetarByte, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates the latest revision.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and use Cat Map. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.

If you are between 13 and 18 years old, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian before using the App.

3. User Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, complete, and current information when creating your account
  • Use a unique username that does not impersonate others
  • Not share your account with others or allow others to access it
  • Not create multiple accounts
  • Not use another person's account without their permission

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. User-Generated Content

Cat Map allows you to submit photos, reviews, cat profiles, health reports, behavioral observations, and other content ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content but grant Cat Map a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your User Content within the App and on our website (cat-map.com) for the purpose of operating and promoting the service.

You represent and warrant that your User Content:

  • Is accurate, truthful, and not misleading
  • Does not infringe any third party's intellectual property or privacy rights
  • Does not contain harmful, offensive, hateful, or illegal material
  • Relates to street cats and is relevant to the App's purpose
  • Does not include identifiable images of people without their consent

We reserve the right to remove any User Content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines without prior notice.

5. CatCoins & Virtual Currency

CatCoins are a virtual currency within the App used for godparent bidding and purchasing badges for cats.

  • CatCoins have no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash, gift cards, or any other form of real currency.
  • CatCoins are obtained exclusively through in-app purchases (CatCoin packs available in the App's shop). There is no mechanism to earn CatCoins through in-app activity.
  • CatCoin balances may be adjusted or revoked if fraud, abuse, or manipulation of the purchase system is detected.
  • Purchased CatCoin packs are non-refundable except where required by applicable law.
  • When you are outbid as a godparent, your CatCoins are automatically refunded to your balance.
  • We reserve the right to modify the CatCoin economy — including earning rates, spending costs, and availability — at any time without prior notice.
  • CatCoins are not transferable between accounts.

6. Premium Subscription

Cat Map offers a Premium subscription that provides access to additional cosmetic features, including premium cat map icons and theme customization options.

  • Premium is billed as an annual subscription through your device's app store (Apple App Store or Google Play Store).
  • You can cancel your subscription at any time through your device's app store settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • No partial refunds are provided for unused subscription time.
  • Premium features may change over time as the App evolves.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date.

7. Donations

Cat Map offers optional donation purchases to support the development and maintenance of the App.

  • Donations are voluntary and do not provide any in-app rewards or privileges.
  • Donations are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  • Donations are non-refundable except where required by applicable law.

8. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
  • Post false, misleading, or fraudulent content (including fake cats, false health reports, or misleading locations)
  • Harass, bully, threaten, or intimidate other users
  • Submit inappropriate, offensive, or hateful content
  • Manipulate scores, leaderboards, or the CatCoin system through dishonest means
  • Create bots, automated scripts, or use other unauthorized tools to interact with the App
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or private data
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or modify the App
  • Use the App in any way that could harm, endanger, or disturb animals
  • Submit false or malicious content moderation reports
  • Exploit bugs or vulnerabilities instead of reporting them
  • Circumvent any security features or access restrictions

9. Content Moderation & Reporting

Cat Map provides a reporting system that allows users to flag inappropriate content, including cat listings, reviews, photos, health reports, and other users.

Reports are reviewed and processed by our team. We reserve the right to:

  • Remove any content that violates these Terms or Community Guidelines
  • Issue warnings to users who violate our policies
  • Temporarily restrict or permanently suspend accounts for repeated or serious violations

Abuse of the reporting system (e.g., filing false or malicious reports) is itself a violation of these Terms.

10. Location Data

Cat Map uses your device's location to enable features such as viewing nearby cats on the map, logging visits (within 100 meters of a cat), and adding new cats.

Location access is optional but required for these core features. We process location data as described in our Privacy Policy. Your personal location is never shared with other users or stored on our servers.

You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings, though this will limit App functionality.

11. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, source code, graphics, icons, cat map markers, branding, and all original content, is owned by PetarByte and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of the App without prior written permission from PetarByte.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

Cat Map is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that:

  • The App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components
  • Cat locations are accurate or that cats will still be present when you visit
  • Health reports reflect actual veterinary assessments

Cat Map is a community-driven platform. Cat data, health reports, and reviews are user-generated and may not be accurate or current. Cat Map is not responsible for animal welfare decisions and does not replace professional veterinary care. If you encounter a cat in need of help, please contact your local animal welfare services.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PetarByte and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the App, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, personal injury, or property damage.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the App shall not exceed the total amount you paid for in-app purchases in the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or €50, whichever is greater.

14. Account Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or for any other reason at our sole discretion. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately.

You may delete your account at any time through the App (Profile → Delete Account). Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Upon deletion:

  • All your personal data, reviews, visits, follows, notifications, CatCoins, and purchase history will be permanently removed.
  • Cats you added will remain on the map for the benefit of the community, but your name will be removed as the creator.

15. Changes to the Service

We reserve the right to modify, update, suspend, or discontinue any part of the App at any time, with or without notice. This includes changes to features, pricing, and the CatCoin economy.

We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the App or any of its features.

16. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Croatia, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved in the competent courts of Croatia.
